  1. I think the important part of the book is in the grandmas story when she was little, she needed to drink. Because thats when everything change. The sign that said "WHITES ONLY" went off. Thats when the water fountain were treated equaly by the Black people and or plus the white people.

    3. I agree with you because the chicken man is somebody who knows if what you did is good and she let grandma go and he got rid of the white guy with the belt.

    3. Yes, Ellen, I agree. This book is set in a time of segregation but still the little girl does not understand the rules of blacks and whites at that time. I wonder why the other people took off their shoes and drank with only their socks on? They knew what the sign meant

    4. I agree with Ellen and Victor, because when she took of her black shoes and stared drinking for the water fountain, she didn't know that she still wan't allowed to dink for the fountain, and right after she stared drinking so did all the other balck people, she's the one who made the sign go away.

    1. I agree with you Victor because water is a equal thing to drink and it doesn't matter if blacks drink or not, it won't break. So I think we should let everyone drink out of same place equally.

    4. Seoyoung, I like when you say "it won't break." The water fountain or other people won't be hurt because black people drink from the fountain. I wonder why they were not allowed too.

    5. I agree with you all. Isn't it so sad that people were not allowed to drink water because of the color of their skin? It makes me sad that even today, people are not able to drink clean water.

  13. I think the important part was when the sign " WHITES ONLY " went away. Because I think that was when slavery ended.

  14. I think the important part of the story is when the white angry men started to wipe black people with his belt and how everyone just stand to show the confidences. This part is important because everyone is kind of protecting the girl by also drinking out of the fountain but I don't understand the part that so many black people is trying to drink even it says 'Whites only' . And even they saw the girl getting pushed away they were trying to drink.

    1. I agree with your comment about how people are showing their confidence. I think they are also showing their courage to stand up with a little girl who didn't know it was wrong because really the law is wrong. I think it is a very courageous story.

  17. I think it is great because from a girl's misunderstanding of the sign "White only" every one can drink from the water fountain and the sign is gone forever.

  19. I think the Important part when the chicken guy saved her because the text said that anyone doing some thing wrong will be turned into a chicken. The white man was whipping the black people who were drinking from the water fountain and that was wrong.
