I hope everyone had a wonderful Spring Break. We are back to the grind here in 4E, with some major projects due next week. Students have been working on these projects for some time and should have had sufficient time to finish most of their work in class. However, some students missed school and others might need to do a little extra work at home after school this week. The deadlines are somewhat flexible for the projects, but I'm encouraging them to do the very best to get their work done on time.
Please read below to learn what is happening in our units of study.
Reading Workshop:
Now that we have finished the Historical Fiction unit, students are spending some time thinking about their growth as readers this year. It’s wonderful to hear so many students speak knowledgeably about what genres and books they love.
Writing Workshop:
Students are hard at work on their Bringing History to Life projects. Last week, we organized our notes and synthesized information. This week, we are putting it all together. Some students are making movies, some are writing picture books, and some are creating newspapers. Whatever their choice, it is action time this week; they will put all they've learned into a creative project. Our homework assignments this week will likely include working on this project to ensure all students meet the deadline.
Math:
This week, we will review our Area and Perimeter test we took on Friday. We will also be reviewing the relationship between decimals, fractions, and percents. Students will also finish presenting their area math projects that were due before break.
Social Studies:
This week, students will tell the story of how agriculture changed the way that human beings live and work through the exploration of the ancient Indus River Valley.
Passion Projects:
This round of Passion Projects focused on students exploring a subject they love and creating something to share with the world. The requirements for this project were:
- Create something.
- Reach out to an expert.
- Share the project with an audience outside of the classroom.
Students will present their projects to the class on April 28th-29th. Parents will have a chance to learn about the projects during student-led conferences.
Have a great week!
