    1. I disagree with you because I think the dog is not so much important in the story.

  2. I predict that Ellen's parents are in uncle Henrik because it is more safer in his home then in Annemarie's home.

    3. I agree-with you because there would be less soldiers guarding and it wont be suspicious

    4. Niccolo, why do you think Uncle Henrick's is safe?
Yejin, why do you think this is good thinking? What makes you say this?
Akshaya, I hadn't really thought about it but I don't remember the author talking about soldiers since they got off the train. I wonder why are there no soldiers in Uncle Henrick's town?

  3. I think important part is when Nazis saw Annmarie's family because I thought Nazis are getting more focus to catch all the Jews. Because Annmarie's family
did not expected Nazis will be in train but they were.

    1. Eric, do you mean that there are more Nazi soldiers than Annemarie's family thought there was? Why do you think the author had soldiers on the train?

  4. I think the important part is when mom told the girls about her life especially about the dog because she shows she cares about the dog

    1. I disagree with you because the dog has nothing to do with the story.

    2. Charlotte and Niccolo, why do you think the author put the part in about mama and her dog? Lois Lowry wouldn't have added it if it wasn't important. What do you think she is trying to show us?
I agree Niccolo, it shows mama cares for her dog, on the other hand I agree with Charlotte that caring for her dog might not be the important part the author is trying to share.
So what is significant about mama and her dog?

  5. I think the important part of the book is when Kristy was like shouting at the German Soldier because that's the part when everyone got scared because they thought that Kristy is going to tell that Ellen is Jewish and that they are escaping to be safe

    1. Yejin, that was a scary moment. Why do you think this was important in the whole book? How does this piece fit with the larger story?

  6. I think that the most important part of chapter 6 is, when Ellen turns out to be the code, because i think maybe that's the whole point of them going to there uncle's house.

  7. I think Ellen would have learned how life is sometimes fair, sometimes not fair always. I thought of that because when they were riding train to the country side, the solder searching for Jewish people even inside the train. And the important part of this chapter is, what I am thinking is when they have to answer the question on the train when the solder asked where are you going. This is important because when they say something about Jewish, they will get into trouble.

    1. Wow, Seoyoung and SiEun, you have really shown your thinking here.

I agree as well that Ellen and Annemarie are learning that life is not fair. It can also be scary and at times you need to be courageous and stand up for things that you believe is right.

  8. I agree because uncle Henrik lives in the middle of nowhere and no Nazi's are occupying the space because the text said that Mama said that the path is empty

  10. I think Important part of chapter 6 is that when Ellen turn to be code.
Because Ellen are Jewish so if soldiers catches the word that Ellen is Jewish, it get danger so let Ellen to be code so that Soldiers don't know.

    1. I agree with Ryota because Ellen is gone some where is very dangerous for the Jewish peoples because the Nazi is on Danemark .

    2. I agree with ryota because when ellen chosen to code, that was plan to protect ellen from nazis. To make her safe

    3. Ryota, Victor, and Eric. This code is very important. Kaavin has also started a conversation below about code.

  11. I think is when the family find a code because for helping Ellen and it is for the resistant in Danemark.

  12. I think the important part is the code because the code was ziggurat and it is meaning jewish.

    1. I agree with you but with another reason, the part that Ellen is the code, made the whole chapter, because that's the whole reason why they went to the uncle's house.

    2. I agree with both of you because it kind of connects to min but without that small part there would be no clue

    3. Charlotte, Madi, and Akshaya, a lot of people are discussing the importance of the code.
Madi, how does the code tell them to go to Uncle Henrick's house?
Akshaya, what clue are you talking about here? It seems important to understanding the chapter.

  13. I think the important part is when kriste was going to say it is a new year for Ellen because Ellen could Be taking away

    1. I agree with you because the soldier came back and asked if they were going for the new year they looked so puzzled so the soldier thought that they weren't going for the new year.

  14. I think the importent part is when the uncle says just one cigaret maybe he said that because he has more jewish and one of them is ellens parents The evidence I have is when mamma say I think its time we go to uncle hendricks so ellen can see her parents again

    1. I agree with you Akshaya. This is one of the important part of the story. Because the book is telling us the code for the Jewish people and also when Ann Marie is thinking why is father saying cigaret. And I also thought of taking Ellen to where parents are staying now. But I thought it over and said it is not possible because they are taking trains to go there and there are Nazis in the train checking.

    2. Wow, Akshaya and Seoyoung, you have clearly shown your thinking here.

I wonder is there another way to get to Uncle Henricks? How can Ellen go and see her parents if there are Nazi soldiers on the train? How can they hide?

  15. I think the important part was the way Dad was speaking on the phone was the important part because the Nazi's could take over the line and hear what they were saying and if they said they were bringing a jew the nazi would have hunted them and taken Ellen.
